A couple of years ago, I was working on the day after Thanksgiving. My regular partner at the time and I were sent on a "Trauma, not recent." As we were heading to the job, I remarked to him something to the effect of "this probably happened yesterday."
As we rolled up on the job, a young man of eighteen or so stepped out of the vestibule of his apartment building. His right eye was swollen shut. I asked him what happened.
"Yesterday, me and my brother, we wuz horsing around, and he threw a punch and I walked into it." Aha! My suspicions were confirmed!
"Dude, why didn't you call the ambulance yesterday?" My partner asked.
"Yo, it was Thanksgiving, yo!" I just shook my head. We sat him in the bus, took his vitals, and off we went to the hospital. On the way there, I heard my partner ask our young patient if he did anything to mitigate the pain, like put ice on it or something.
"Yeah, I put ice on it, but I stopped, 'cause ice is COLD, yo!"
